3 Ways Every Student Can Stay Organised!

The school year is back with the same excitement and anticipation. Aren’t you looking forward to it? But how would you spend this school year differently?

Education-for-children

We at Akshaya Patra, one of the children’s charities engaged in feeding the hungry, work for children who are excited to come back to school every year. We have some ideas for you to stay organised this year.

Write down your timetable and carry it with you

Writing down your class timetable twice can save you from a lot of hassles like late arrival or missing a class. Write down your timetable at the back of a classwork notebook and always carry it in your class. Keep one timetable always pasted on the wall of your house for reminders.

Keep your bag organised

How many times have you been rebuked in class simply because you forgot to carry your homework copy? That happens when you fail to organise your schoolbag. Now that you have already written down your timetable, make sure you keep your bag organised according to it.

Carry your daily needs

Apart from books, what do you need in your bag? Is it a handkerchief, a water bottle, a box containing pencils and pens? Make sure you carry all your daily needs in your bag. Nobody likes boys and girls who always borrow things like pencils or erasers from other students. This habit will make you self-sufficient and also help you value your belongings.

Children, now that you are back to school, make the new academic year’s resolution to always keep your things safe. There are children who cannot afford these things and often, children’s charities all over India have to work hard to get these children some basic school needs. Do you know that many organisations work to help such children?

Akshaya Patra is on a mission of feeding the hungry through its school lunch programme. If you know anyone who can contribute in this cause, do encourage them to sponsor a child, so they can help that child get both food and education. Spread the good news today.

Let’s bring children #BackToSchool

Back to school 1

Hello May! Akshaya Patra, a children’s charity, welcomes a new month with a topic we all love visiting, something that has stolen space in hearts and something that all the children should have access to: School! As the month goes by, we will talk about bringing children back to school for the next academic year. Meanwhile, you can meet our beneficiaries from around the country.

Sahil from Nagpur, Lakshmi from Hubballi and Pawan from Mysuru are children with life changing aspirations. These children are different from the ordinary because they know that education is as vital as food. They understand that despite all the rules, discipline and a lot of other school things that they may not like a lot, they are being nourished in a growing environment of learning.

Sahil-Gajbiye

Sahil wishes to be a pilot in the Indian Air Force. This 14-year-old wants to fight for his country and make people proud. He vividly recalls history about freedom fighter Veer Savarkar who was imprisoned in Cellular Jail in Port Blair. He wishes to fly to Port Blair someday so he could re-visit the history he has learned in school. Such is the impact of education on children. Sahil comes to school regularly because a generous donor decided to sponsor the child. That’s precisely what inspires all of us at Akshaya Patra as we prepare for another school year soon. Children like Sahil, Lakshmi and Pawan are now able to truly learn at their schools because they are provided with mid-day meals in the school premises.

We wish to expand our reach and take mid-day meals to more places across India. We often urge our donors to sponsor a child so that more and more children are encouraged to study and go to schools. With a very small contribution alone, you are able to transform the life of children and take them to the light of education.

There are several other ways that you can extend your help. It could be sponsoring a kitchen for a year, donating a vehicle or sponsoring a school.  You could also sponsor a child’s meals for an entire year! Donate today to feed the hungry!

Gift a Happy New Year to India’s children – Akshaya Patra’s Message

The curtains are closing on 2016 and the stage is set for 2017. Yes folks, New Year 2017 is here! It is a time to gather the lessons of the past year, celebrate its joys and let go of its pains. The New Year brings in new hopes, dreams and often a list of resolutions too! The end of a year and the beginning of the new one is also a period of reflection on the blessings received in the previous year.

One wonderful way of ushering in the New Year is to bring happiness to the most innocent of souls – kids. Donating to children’s charities is a great way of doing this! The Akshaya Patra Foundation works tirelessly for the cause of ‘unlimited food for education’. Founded in the year 2000 with the principle that no child should be deprived of education due to hunger, the organisation operates the world’s largest NGO-run Mid-day Meal Programme in India. Currently feeding over 1.6 million in the country through its state-of-the-art kitchens, the Foundation, registered under section 35AC of the Income Tax Act, 1961, strives tirelessly to eliminate classroom hunger. Why not join this fight against hunger and malnutrition and gift India’s children a healthy, wholesome school lunch a day by donating to the Foundation? That would be a noble and auspicious start to the New Year!

Akshaya Patra’s immediate mission is to feed 5 million children by 2020. Every successive year brings an added hope to the Foundation – that of benefitting a greater number of people. Its programmes are the fuel that powers the dreams of young children across India. These kaleidoscopic dreams include becoming doctors, engineers, architects, pilots, soldiers. It is up to the people of the world to come together to ensure that they are fulfilled and the children’s tomorrows are lit with education and nutrition. This is possible through donations of generous patrons who feel strongly about the futures of India’s children. Every contribution above Rs 500 made to the Foundation is eligible for 100% tax exemption in India, under section 80GGA.

Make 2017 a great one for India’s school kids!

What and Why of Children’s Day in India

There’s much happy ring to the greeting – Happy Children’s Day. In India, it’s a special day dedicated to children – a day to recognise children as precious gifts and that they deserve to be cherished. The credit for celebrating children on November 14 every year goes to India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was fondly called Chacha Nehru by the children.

November 14 is Nehru’s birthday and he preferred to celebrate it as Children’s Day. He once said: “I like being with children and talking to them and, even more, playing with them. For the moment I forget that I am terribly old and it is very long ago since I was a child.” It’s with this spirit that we undertake food projects with various schools around India and bring mid-day meals with the help of the government to school children.

Many children in India struggle with getting quality food and education, and this is where the role of NGOs has been pivotal. Akshaya Patra is one of the children’s charities that have put a strong foot forward to reach out to more and more children with its Mid-Day Meal Programme. So far, this children’s charitable organisation has reached 13,210 government and government-aided schools in 26 locations across 11 states of India.

Why we must celebrate children?

On Children’s day, various schools and children’s charities organise cultural programmes & competitions to encourage children with getting involved in the fun-filled activities. Serving over 2.12 billion meals to children all over India since 2009, Akshaya Patra has been doing every bit to bridge the gap and help children celebrate various occasions to the fullest. It’s important that we must celebrate Children’s Day because in doing so, we are investing in our own future, our own society. Children are like clay and we have the responsibility of molding them into beautiful pots.

Akshay Patra gives you a chance to be the child’s ray of hope, add to the moments of joy in their lives and be a part of their growth story. Wondering how? You can write a blog and spread the word about our initiative, or you can engage with us on social media and share our posts with your connections/friends, or you can even create awareness among people through active fundraising campaigns.

Help a child get closer to his dream

bhanupriya-org

Bhanupriya studies at a school in Bengaluru where Akshaya Patra Mid-Day meals are served. She dreams of becoming a doctor and wants to treat poor patients for free. And for that, she knows that she needs to study well and get good grades. So in order to help her achieve this, Akshaya Patra provides her food that is delicious and will help her grow into a healthy being. Just like Bhanupriya, many other children all over India are now getting better food and better education. You too can be someone who could help a child and get him closer from dream to reality.

Sponsor a Child for a Better Future!

Make this Children’s Day more rewarding for someone who is still living in hope of a bright future. While NGOs play their role, they need your support and encouragement as well. You can do that by donating an amount of Rs 950 for a year to begin with, as it would hold immense value for that one child whose life will be impacted for a lifetime. Sponsor a Child TODAY!
