The Akshaya Patra Foundation has been awarded with the Chanakya Award for NGO of the Year 2015 by the Press Council of India (PRCI)! This award was bestowed on Akshaya Patra as part of the PRCI Annual Corporate Collateral Awards 2015 at the PRCI 9th Global Communication Conclave 2015.
Besides winning this award The Akshaya Patra Foundation won several others as well. These included Platinum award for the Annual Report 2013-14, Gold for Akshaya Patra’s latest video ‘The Possibilities’, Gold for the Foundation’s Quarterly Newsletter, Silver for its 2015 Calendar, Bronze for undertaking the social media campaign of the year, and even received an Appreciation Award for Corporate Advertisement!
The theme of this year’s Global Communication Conclave was ‘Communicate to Connect’. The Annual Corporate Collateral Awards are handed out each year to honour those who have shown excellence in the field of corporate communications. Last year The Akshaya Patra Foundation received Gold in the Annual Reports category.
The PRCI was created to provide a platform for professionals in the PR, communications and media industries, as well as academicians, to exchange ideas and network with each other. The PRCI has set up headquarters in Bangalore, but also has 25 other wings throughout India.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation was started in the year 2000, in Bangalore to provide the mid-day meal programme to Government school children in the region. The programme which began with feeding just 1,500 students across 5 schools in Bangalore today feeds over 1.4 million children across 10,661 Government and Government aided schools, in 10 states of India.
Akshaya Patra today runs 23 kitchens, from which 21 are centralised and two are decentralised. 11 kitchens are ISO 22000:2005 certified while the remaining are in the process of certification.
Akshaya Patra is guided by its vision which states that ‘no child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger’ and is working to fulfil its mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is run based on a public-private partnership model which has proved to be extremely successful. The Foundation has received numerous awards such as the CII Food Safety Awards, is a five time winner of the ICAI Gold Shield award for excellence in financial reporting resulting in Akshaya Patra joining the ICAI Hall of Fame, a five time winner of the SAFA awards and many more.
