Support a child on Diwali

Diwali is one of the biggest festivals celebrated across India. Met with great anticipation in the month of October, families and friends gather throughout the country to partake in the festivities. The festival which signifies a triumph of good versus evil, and light over dark is enjoyed through parties, the exchange of gifts and the lighting of lamps and fire crackers.

The festival is of such great importance that every year crores of rupees are spent purchasing gifts, firecrackers and food to celebrate. However, in contrast to all the pomp and splendour of the occasion, millions of children in India spend the festival hungry, with no access to their basic nutritional requirements. As a result of this hunger they have to take up child labour at the cost of the free and compulsory education afforded to them by the Government of India.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation tries to provide food for education to every child in need through its mid-day meal programme. Currently feeding over 1.4 million children across India on every school day, the Foundation aims to reach 5 million children by 2020.

On the occasion of this festival, The Akshaya Patra Foundation has a way to make your Diwali even more special. By making a donation to the organisation you can help provide nutrition to an underprivileged child and help send him/her to school to get educated. Donate to commemorate this special occasion with your family and friends, and make your Diwali more auspicious and brighter than before.
