A selfless soul

Mahantesh certainly has the respect of his teachers and peers! Describing the young boy, Shankar Gangannavar the Head Master of the Government Kannada Higher Primary School at Saraswatipura in Dharwad says, “He is the Prime Minister of our school. A good organiser, an orator and he also sets an example to many of our students.” This is high praise indeed.

But Mahantesh has proved that he is worthy of being held in such high esteem. At just 12 years of age he has a reputation of being selfless with his peers. He is a hardworking young boy who has a dream to become a scientist one day. He nurtures his love for studies, and even knows what he wants to do in the future. “I love science and I want to take it up when I go to college. My parents are very supportive of me. Even my teachers are. I feel happy to come here to school especially to learn,” he says.
Aside from being devoted to his studies Mahantesh also loves to draw and sketch, and he loves music too. As a beneficiary of the Akshaya Patra mid-day meal programme Mahantesh gets a filling, healthy meal on every school day that helps him concentrate on his studies and his hobbies as well. “I love the Akshaya Patra meals. The food is filled with vegetables which are healthy, tasty and nutritious. I thank Akshaya Patra for giving us meals every afternoon,” he says.
Mahantesh is currently preparing to take part in a state level essay writing competition that will happen in October, 2014 in Bangalore. He has already won the first place for the same competition in Dharwad last year.
His father works at a Kirana store and his mother is a housewife. They have definitely instilled all the right values into this charming young boy, values that we hope will take him far and see him succeed in the future. We wish him all the best!
