Donate differently to help the cause

Donate-Differently-to-help-the-causeRaising money for a worthy cause doesn’t have to be something that eats into your savings or cramps your style. We at The Akshaya Patra Foundation believe that with some creative thinking, planning and team work it is certainly possible to do something for the benefit of a charitable cause and still live life in very much the usual way.

As middle class, earning people we are frequently concerned about the toll consistently donating to an NGO like The Akshaya Patra Foundation will take on our monthly income. How will I pay the rent? When can I buy that nice television set I’ve been saving up for? What if my child needs something for school? These are questions we are often plagued with when someone brings up the topic of donating to charity.

The answer lies in thinking out of the box. We were thrilled to see a shining example of innovative thinking with the ‘+1 campaign’ campaign started by Vasudev Adiga’s in November 2013. As part of this initiative, every item on the Adiga’s menu has been increased by Re. 1 and the proceeds are donated to The Akshaya Patra Foundation. So far this creative and generous scheme has yielded 18.25 lakhs, and counting.

By increasing their rates by just Re. 1, Adiga’s ensured that no one would feel the pinch from donating to the NGO, and still allowed them to make a substantial donation to The Akshaya Patra Foundation.

We couldn’t have been happier with the results of this endeavor and we know that it’s just a matter of time before more fun, creative and completely affordable donation schemes come walking through our door.
